Chalk and slate was invented in 1801 which was used to write and erase on a surface. With the invent of modern day lap top the same facility was introduced in electronic form where one can write on Laptop screen and erase it . It took 180 years from a concept of chalk and slate to a touch screen Lap top. The journey from Chalk and slate to Lap top is amazing.
Portable computer was called laptop in 1960s

1982- Grid Compass 1100 : Is often regarded as the first true laptop. It was designed by Bill Moggridge and featured a clamshell design, a flat-panel electroluminescent display, and a built-in modem. The Grid Compass was used by NASA on the Space Shuttle in the 1980s.
1989 – Macintosh Portable : Apple released the Macintosh Portable However, it was heavy and expensive, limiting its popularity.
1994 – Cirque corp : Introduction of Laptops with Trackpads , the first laptop with a touchpad (also known as a trackpad. This innovation eventually became the standard for laptop input devices.
2000s – The 2000s saw the rise of thin and light laptops, often referred to as ultrabooks. These laptops featured sleek designs, solid-state drives (SSDs), and longer battery life.
2010s – Introduction of Convertible laptops, which can transform into tablets by rotating or detaching the keyboard. These 2-in-1 devices provided users with the flexibility of both a laptop and a tablet in a single device.
